I was wondering what the longest movie in the world is, thinking perhaps something like a marathon 12 hours or so Roman battle epic maybe, but no, instead I found this classic from 2012. At a mere 857 hours, or 35 days and 17 hours long, it's something that you can go for a quick watch while on your lunch break.

It's a silent documentary film, following the exciting adventures of a pedometer going from its destination back to the factory. In real time. In silence. I can't think of anything more riveting, can you? The IMDB description says "the production cycle of a pedometer in reverse chronological order". And that's it. Hey, I'd love it to be shown at the cinema with a challenge for viewers to watch it all in one sitting and one of them winning a £50000 prize at the end!! 🤣

I mean, why the <insert rude word of choice> did they make this?!! Apparently, according to the video description, it was an art project, so that makes a bit more sense, because sometimes artists like doing pointless things like this to make pointless points. I'll bet setting up the cameras and editing it was a nightmare... I'd love a making of video, wouldn't you? Now that really would be interesting.

Check out those user reviews on it and it's even got a surprisingly high 6.5 IMDB rating, too.

Oh and the best part of all? You can watch the whole thing on YouTube. Yup, really. Now, due to length restrictions on YT, it's been broken up into 8 hour sections: that's 107 videos, with the last one being about 4 hours. Oh, and it's all in glorious Full HD too. Good luck getting through all that. Oh and it really is silent. 🤦‍♂️ Any NerdZoner wanna take up the challenge of watching the whole thing in one go without stopping? @AllThingsTech would that be you? @Hitcore surely this must give you inspiration for a music video?

Right, now, if you're too chicken to watch the whole thing, there's this 72 minute abridged version showing all the most exciting plot points for you to zone out to.

Oh boy, this ridiculous movie has to be my favourite post of 2025 so far! 🤣

EDIT

Ok, looking at that Wikipedia entry, it turns out that this is only the second longest movie ever made, the longest dwarfing it at 120 days / 2880 hours / 172,800 minutes, called "120 Days of Sodom Literally". That's a totally insane 3.4 times longer than Logistics. Someone must really be a glutton for punishment, lol.

Ironically, this has got the least informative IMDB entry:

🤭 This review itself entertained me:
After buying popcorn, snacks and enough fizzy pop to last me the 857 hours runtime, I sat in my favourite chair and switched on this epic tale of high sea adventures. From the outset I knew this was gonna be good. The high speed lorry chase to the port was something like out of fast and furious! Luckily things calmed down once the ship was loaded and I was able to eat my chocolate snack in a more subdued easy going scene of sea life. After day 26 I decided I best go back to work as my boss was giving me grief, but luckily he let me carry on watching while driving my taxi around town. I did notice my family wasn't to pleased about me watching logistics all the time, and they found Christmas TV in the house a little boring. But by this stage I didn't care, I just needed to know what was going to happen next!

So let's cut to the chase, this film is a non stop ship sailing classic and deserves a new cinema release. My only negative is the end was a little underwhelming and there was no Dolby atmos soundtrack. Hopefully that will be on a 4k release at some point. Find time in your life and watch this, you won't be disappointed.

Oh yeah, read them all and this is the best one. Love that ironic humour, not too different to how I wrote my post.

So, will you take up the challenge, @AllThingsTech?! 😮

Hell no! Will you? I have work :(
I acc struggle to stay awake during long movies in general, like Lord of the rings was 3 hrs long!
I can't believe it! Why is this not a TV show? :/

Sorry about that, I just had to try it on! :) I wasn't really being serious, anyway. Just watch a bit of that shortened version and you'll see just how mindnumbing and pointless it is. "Art" project indeed.

You might be surprised. I don't mean to put yourself through the whole ordeal*, but the concept of it, the feel etc might spark something in quite unexpected ways. Note that the last few videos show docking cranes and stuff, so there's quite a bit more movement there which may help in some way, especially with a dystopian setting.

*I've already tried and failed with that one with @AllThingsTech, sigh.

So...it was an art project?o_O If it was, surely the idiot who submitted it got an urgent referral to a good psychiatrist?
