Other than on NerdZone, one is used to seeing annoying animated and intrusive ads plastered all over the sites you visit. Heck, some of them even detect the ad blocker that you're inevitably using and refuse to serve the page until you turn it off. Annoying as hell, for sure. This is why it's great to see that Universe Today has gone ad-free! How did they do it? Patreon supporters. This is a good quality website about the, uh, universe, that has enough voluntary subscribers that it no longer needs to show ads in order to stay afloat, which I think is fantastic.
