Car cloning scams accelerate

This is a pretty nasty scam that requires no social engineering and it's on the rise.

This story also shows how nasty TfL are in perpetrating their own scam by misusing their enforcement scheme to nail an innocent victim who had never even driven into the ULEZ zone and who's car was off road at the time of the alleged offenses. They only stopped when The Guardian intervened - not even involvement from the police siding with the victim had previously helped. I wonder how many other people this has happend to who weren't so lucky.

On Wednesday, Bouchaib Moussaid’s £8,000 Kia Sportage car was all set to be sold at auction by bailiffs. The care worker, who lives in St Albans in Hertfordshire, and his extended family have spent the last few weeks trying to stop the sale.

Moussaid is one of a growing number of people who have had their car cloned.

Unknown to him, someone had been using copies of his car’s registration plates and had driven in London’s ultra-low emission zone (Ulez) 12 times, resulting in him being sent a series of penalty fines.
