Dynamic IP Addresses

Back in the day when dial up connections were a thing, I could understand the use of dynamic IP addresses but nowadays, with a majority of people using always on fibre, I do wonder what is the purpose of dynamic addresses?

Appreciate the reason dynamic addresses are used, to get a pint out of a quart pot, but now they have IPv6 so enough addresses to even give the Klingons their own IP addresses. I still can't quite get my head round IPv6 addresses, too many numbers together.

tbh, I don't understand what the benefit to the ISP was for dynamic addresses even back then, because they always had to have enough addresses for every customer to be online at once. Personally, I prefer it for consumer access in case one is blocked or banned by a website or forum by IP address. Should that happen, it would necessitate the use of a VPN to get around it, which is inconvenient at the very least.

I don't like IPv6 addresses either, for that reason. Massive headache working with them and we're not forced to yet.

Did they have enough for all customers to be online at once or did their research suggest maybe 70% (number plucked out of thin air) would be sufficient?

Yes, I believe they had enough. I've never heard of anyone being denied internet access because an IP address couldn't be allocated.
