However, I think on balance Biden was right to do this.
When you have a president and his cult members vowing to go after people when there is zero evidence of wrong-doing that they have any influence over then yes, they are a valid use. If the idiots are so assured that they have evidence, let them put it before a criminal court. All they want to do is have a political circus like they did with the Biden impeachment. Get their soundbites in and feel like they have done something without ever being able to prove what they have claimed. Seems since around 2016 that has been the GOP mantra.

It's a mistake to brush these things off. No, there's something behind it alright.
Evidence without proof is just gossip.
And the same as with the allegations in the Trump 2020 "big steal", this will wash out the same. The issue is that each side is having to try and make excuses on why they lost.
It never could be because at the time of running the candidates offered were shitty, just one less so than the other.

I think we're going round in circles here. I'm just saying don't simply brush it off, but make a mental note of it, as Trump has said things before in an offhand manner that turned out to be true. This guy loves hinting and winding everybody up as they try to guess. Classic fucking troll and now he's the president. Again.

As far as those candidates, we've been over that before. I'll just briefly summarize what I said earlier that had the Dems fielded better candidates, it wouldn't have been close, so any possible cheating could not have taken place. I've said myself that it's possible that there was no cheating and explained why and that we'll now never know for sure since it wasn't investigated when the window of opportunity was open a couple of months ago.

Why the hell did Trump pardon this guy? Looks like it's simply because the people who nailed Ulbricht were also after Trump so he wants to get back at them. He's absolutely mad.

US President Donald Trump says he has signed a full and unconditional pardon for Ross Ulbricht, who operated Silk Road, the dark web marketplace where illegal drugs were sold.

Ulbricht was convicted in 2015 in New York in a narcotics and money laundering conspiracy and sentenced to life in prison.

Trump posted on his Truth Social platform that he had called Ulbricht's mother to inform her that he had granted a pardon to her son.

Silk Road, which was shut down in 2013 after police arrested Ulbricht, sold illegal drugs using Bitcoin, as well as hacking equipment and stolen passports.

"The scum that worked to convict him were some of the same lunatics who were involved in the modern day weaponization of government against me," Trump said in his post online on Tuesday evening. "He was given two life sentences, plus 40 years. Ridiculous!"

So, one of the first things that Trump did was pardon 1500 violent Jan 6 insurrectionists, spitting in the face of law and order and in the faces of those policemen and women who took the brunt of it and were seriously injured, some even to the point of committing suicide merely days later. All because these people supported his insurrection and did his bidding. Trump acting like a mob boss, much?

Here, Glenn Kirschner explains it all in great detail, with evidence and you can see the raw disgust and upset that he feels at what Trump has done, taking the situation personally. I couldn't agree more with him.

@Geffers I'd be grateful if you could please watch this video and then let me know how you feel about Trump doing this as I'd be interested to know. I suspect I know how you'll reply, but I'd like to actually know for sure, if you wouldn't mind.

@Astro What I know you follow all of BTC's videos, but not if you follow Glenn's so I know this will interest you.

Everyone, as much as it pains me, I've now renamed this thread from "The Trump downfall thread" to "The Trump thread" as clearly taking this guy down for his many crimes doesn't seem to be humanly possible due to his wealth and corruption. Even that bullet boosted him rather than putting an end to his tyranny once and for all. The only thing that will eventually do it is ill health and / or death due to Father Time. That's a guarantee, but it will take too long, unfortunately.

Yet another thing against the ordinary person that Trump has signed off on: revoked anti-discrimination laws that employers have to abide by when hiring someone.

Ordinary people of colour, disabled etc are gonna be in a world of hurt over this and all the other bad things that Trump is doing. At least this one doesn't affect me here in Blighty, but I've got friends in America whom this will affect.

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump said he had revoked a six-decade-old executive order designed to combat workplace discrimination and promote affirmative action among federal contractors, undoing a labor standard that stretches back to the presidency of Lyndon Baines Johnson.

The rule Trump nuked, Executive Order 11246, forbade federal contractors from discriminating on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity. It granted the Labor Department the power to enforce its provisions through a contracting standards office.

@Geffers please have a read of this article and let me know if you think that this is a good idea. Don't just quote Trump's take on it, but let us know your own opinion on this. I'd really like to know.

Actually, the only two things it "endangers" are decisions based upon sexual orientation or gender identity. And that is only at the federal level. States can have their own laws that provide protections and that are pursued under state tort actions. The Federal government (and courts) have no control over them. Even the SC has to give higher notice of the state law vs no federal protection. Federal does not trump (pardon the pun) state law unless it goes against established federal law.
Under federal jurisdiction, the rest are already protected by established law. Disabilities are protected by another section of established law.

No, it endangers rather more than that as per the article and it's in my quote, so not sure why you think it's only two things. Are we at cross purposes maybe?

A mere three days ago (and even much further back, but I'll never find it) I said this:

omg no sooner do I make a post in this thread than I see another article worthy of posting here! I suppose it's because Trump has just been elected.

In this one, it explains the convoluted way that Trump could remain in power beyond his second term and don't put it past him to try this out, as it's a near certainty. The only thing that I can see stopping him from trying is either ill health, like dementia perhaps, or death.

Welcome to the end of American democracy, just like Biden warned us all this time.

And now there are actual moves to make this happen! And guess what, with the whole government now being Republican, I'll bet it now happens. Welcome to America, banana republic.

BTC explains it, here:

Note that just after Trump "won" the election in November, congressman Dan Goldman called on the House of Representatives to uphold the Oath of Office, reaffirming support for the 22nd amendment which limits presidents to two terms, but he wasn't even allowed to put it to a vote. BTC explains this, starting at 3:33, but please do watch the whole video.

As I said a few posts up, it looks like the only thing that can stop him now is Father Time, when he eventually dies and that's only because the technology to extend life isn't here (yet). Imagine just how bad it would be if Trump could live indefinitely and you can also be sure that all the other tinpot dictators of the world would get their hands on this technology, pronto, making the problem so much worse. Just be glad it doesn't exist yet and hopefully won't before he dies.

Clearly, Trump is the worst president ever and the world's biggest and most successful conman. No wonder the world is in trouble now, let alone America.

Because you stated this
Ordinary people of colour, disabled etc are gonna be in a world of hurt over this and all the other bad things that Trump is doing. At least this one doesn't affect me here in Blighty, but I've got friends in America whom this will affect.
And those are already protected classes. The only "color outside the lines" ones were the sexual orientation and gender identity. Those that are disabled are protected still by existing federal law. People of color are already also protected by long existing law.
The executive order that Trump threw out was only an extension and emphasis of the Civil Rights ACT (a LAW, not an executive order) that it applied to government contractors. The protections are still guaranteed under law. The EO gave the assorted governmental agencies more "teeth" to enforce it than what was normally required, which was a lawsuit by the affected individual to obtain relief. It also apparently added a few additional "identified protected classes" over what established law had.

Again, a bunch of teeth gnashing and wailing over something that really wasn't effective to begin with.

Now, the irony? When GW Bush was president in 2002, he signed an EO that extended Johnsons EO and gave certain protections for religious decisions being made by a contractor to base hiring on. Guess religion is no longer a big concern of Trumpty Dumpty since he's gotten what he wanted.

What the idiot Trump SHOULD have done was revoke EO 13672, which was an Obama era EO that granted protections to those classes that Trump and his sycophants are so afraid of. Just goes to prove the guy is a blithering idiot that doesn't know what he was doing.

Ok, that's at odds with that article, but maybe it's not completely accurate. tbh, I'm not invested in this question enough to research it so I'll accept your explanation.

Indeed he is, which in some ways makes it even more infuriating that he's been able to subvert the rule of law (those 4 lawsuits) and even get the presidency again. The one thing he has though is he's wily af, helped enormously by his huge wealth allowing him to buy people off and also threaten where necessary, ie carrot and stick. It just couldn't get any worse.

Someone else explaining how the election was rigged so that Trump won when Harris actually won. This was done by rejecting millions of ballots from Black and other ethnic minorities when they should not have been. He's got his stats from actual government data which lends his claims legitimacy. Watch the video for the details.

Unfortunately it's too late to do anything about it now no matter how compelling the evidence as Trump is now fully embedded in the government and controls everything, so he'll just suppress any challenges to his presidency by any means necessary, including violence, perhaps especially violence...

Right, going back to watching The Traitors. How apt.

He's already wiping the criminal records of the insurrectionists that he's pardoned.

And he's removing the checks and balances on him allowing him unfettered corruption

This is getting bad, real bad.

@Astro What I suspect that you won't agree with the election interference claims and that's fine, you're allowed your view, like anyone else.

Claims are cheap. Evidence still lacking.
And it was well known that ballots got disqualified. What they frequently don't tell you is that they were actually valid disqualifications in many cases.
Is this the same Greg Palast that was making the same claims back in 2020?

Apparently he's got the evidence. Not had a chance to watch the whole video yet, anyway.

If you got a link to claims he made in 2020, I'd be interested in having a look.

I did... and I didn't see any shown. It's easy to "say" you have evidence. Hell, that's all the Trump cult members have been doing.
I know there were some voter rolls that got purged and they had people on them that should not have been. And those were done during the period that DOJ says they should not have been. The correct process now is to hold those that did that responsible. But that will never happen.
As I mentioned... I'm pretty sure he sang the same refrain back in 2020.

Then Google it.
Pretty sure I read the actual EO's.
Did you?
It was an Obama era EO that added that extra into it. In fact, the exact EO I denoted.
The original 1964 EO was not (and should not have been) an issue, other than political grandstanding by what amounts to a "hidden white nationalist".
Trying to rewrite history in every step his cult members take!

Clash of the egos, lol. Looks like the "bromance" is over. I like this bit, especially:

Musk and Trump are not Batman and Robin. They are two Batmans, each with their own unyielding desire to dominate the spotlight, the narrative and the accolades. The combustible mix of their egos, coupled with their insatiable need for public adoration, is destined to end in a fiery implosion.

Now that Trump's president, there's gonna be endless content to fill this thread! I wonder how long it's gonna be in four years? Wow.

A short opinion piece on Trump's rigged election suggestion that I've been talking about. Unfortunately, there's no smoking gun, but it remains suspicious.

Can't say I feel sorry for this criminal being shot dead. Look at just how soon after being released he got into an armed confrontation with police. The world is a better, safer, place without him. 1 down, 1499 to go.

A man who was pardoned by President Donald Trump for his involvement with the 2021 U.S. Capitol riot was fatally shot on Sunday, Jan. 26, in Jasper County, Ind., police said.

Matthew Huttle, 42, was involved in a traffic stop near the Pulaski County, Ind. county line around 4:15 p.m. on Sunday. A Jasper County Sheriff’s Department (JCSD) officer attempted to arrest him. Huttle was in possession of a firearm and resisted, prompting an altercation between him and the officer, who fired his weapon and fatally shot Huttle.

Let's see.

Ukraine war still going on, not stopped on day 1.
Eggs have risen 36% in price.
Gas has gone up 8¢ a gallon in the last approximately 5 days.
Chicken prices have risen.
Pork prices have risen.
Cheese prices have risen.
Seems like promises made, promises broken so far. Remember, Trump ran on gas & groceries... and he's failing. Meanwhile, he's concentrating on his pet peeves.
So far he has failed to act on ANY of his promises that are important to the working class.... you know, the things that make our lives easier and cheaper.

I feel your pain, @Astro What Must really tick you off to be in the same boat as all those millions of idiots who voted for him. Meanwhile, they'll still ardently continue to support him and make idiotic excuses for those price rises.

Ukraine war still going on, not stopped on day 1.
Remember, Trumpty Dumpty promised to stop the war in one day even before becoming president! 😮 Yeah, what a liar.
