A train station designed with 1,000 cycle spaces but no car park is a recipe for chaos, some residents have said.
The upcoming Cambridge South station, on Francis Crick Avenue at the city’s Biomedical Campus, is now expected to open in early 2026 rather than its original “late 2025” date.
The “sustainable” station will have solar panels and wildflowers on its roof.
However, residents have criticised the lack of car parking available, and contrasted this with the nearby Cambridge mainline station, which has 400 vehicle spaces.
Local Jenny Atkins said: “It’s ridiculous, there is no parking in that area so drivers will try to park in the nearby streets which will cause chaos.
“I understand the need to encourage people to use public transport but to have no car park option is crazy.”
Instead, the station will feature 1,000 cycle spaces as part of a strategy to get more people cycling, walking or taking public transport.
